Construction of a terminal at Iași International Airport
Romania
At Iași International Airport in Romania, the new T4 passenger terminal is currently being built, which will be used for international flights from 2024. Thanks to Emcekrete 60 F universal grout, the concrete components of the shell were seamlessly joined between December 2022 and March 2023 despite winter conditions.

The city of Iași is located in the northwest of Romania near the border with neighbouring Moldova. With around 270,000 inhabitants, the tradition-rich university city is the third largest metropolis in the country and is considered by some to be the "cradle of Romanian culture". The International Airport Iași is currently being expanded with Terminal T4 to become the second largest airport in Romania. On a total area of 31,250 m² on three modern, spacious levels, up to 3.5 million passengers per year will check in and out at 34 check-in counters and 10 gates in the future. The ambitious project with a volume of 90 million euros is being carried out by STRABAG AG.
Start of construction in winter - no problem for multi-talent Emcekrete 60 F
Construction work on the shell began in the middle of the winter of 2022. Due to the problematic weather conditions, the local contractor AVINCI decided to use MC's hydraulically setting grout Emcekrete 60 F for the rigid connections between the vertical and horizontal concrete components after receiving technical and expert advice from MC in Romania. The swellable and shrinkage-compensated grout offers high adhesive tensile strength on properly prepared concrete surfaces and exhibits excellent flow properties and high initial and final strengths even at temperatures as low as 5° C. The latter even exceeded the high initial and final strengths, and also exceeded the high requirements of the client.
Wide range of applications
The application range of the universal grouting mortar is very broad and extends from underpouring or grouting of precision machines, machine foundations, bridge supports, crane rails, turbines, engines, steel structures to the grouting of fastening bolts, steel components in concrete, rigid joints between precast elements as well as between precast elements and in-situ concrete. Emcekrete 60 F is chloride-free and classified as non-combustible (building material class A1 according to EN 13501) and can be used for almost all exposure classes.
Easy processing
Emcekrete 60 F is easy to use, as the ready-to-use product only needs to be mixed with water. Since it can be pumped, MC also provided the processor AVINCI with a mixing pump to further facilitate the application of the product. This enabled the concrete components to be seamlessly joined together on the construction site and it helped to keep the tightly planned timing despite of the wintry conditions. In the process, the initial and final strengths of Emcekrete 60 F exceeded the client's expectations. The construction project at Iași International Airport is in full swing and the new infrastructure is scheduled to start operations in early 2024.
