Alba Arena: A new benchmark for sports and events in Hungary

Hungary

Since the Alba Arena opened in April 2024, the city of Székesfehérvár, located around 60 km southwest of Budapest, has not only a state-of-the-art sports venue, but also a multifunctional centre for events and culture. With a total net area of 23,730 m², the arena can be used flexibly for a wide range of events - from ice hockey matches to concerts. MC-Bauchemie products played an important role in the completion of the project, in particular the innovative flooring systems used on the striking blue floors of the new sports centre.

The Alba Arena can accommodate 6,000 spectators for sporting events and up to 8,000 for concerts. Its four floors also house offices, service areas, a restaurant and an additional event hall.

Rapid construction progress in the Alba Arena thanks to MC-DUR TopSpeed

After the City of Székesfehérvár decided to build the arena in 2017, construction work began in October 2021 under the direction of the construction company Market Építő Zrt. and engineering company ENSI Kft. and continued uninterrupted throughout the winter. They both opted for a robust and quick to install MC-DUR flooring system from MC and the special MC-DUR TopSpeed resin, which can be used even in wintry conditions, i.e. cold and damp, and dries quickly. This meant that the floors could be walked on quickly and the schedule could be kept. The system's wide range of applications, high flexibility and rapid load-bearing capacity ensured that construction progressed smoothly, minimising downtime and impressing the client.

When it came to coating high-traffic areas such as the spectator area in the Alba Arena, the contractors opted for the single-component floor sealer MC- Estrifan Color Protect, which offers high wear resistance as well as good protection against stains and abrasion.

The distinctive design: blue floor as an eye-catcher

The arena's distinctive blue seamless floor design with large chips was created in close collaboration with MCXVI Architects Studio and Gábor Szokolyai. The colour blue, inspired by the local ice hockey team, is a recurring theme throughout the arena. To meet the high demands for durability and aesthetics, MC-Bauchemie's resistant products were used. The robust and aesthetically pleasing design floor was realised over an area of around 16,000 m² with a non-slip R 10 surface.

Durable concrete protection for spectator areas in the Alba Arena

MC-Estrifan Color Protect, a single-component floor sealant, was used for the heavily trafficked areas of the Alba Arena, particularly in the spectator areas. It not only offers high wear resistance, but also long-lasting protection against stains and wear - ideal for an arena that is regularly used by thousands of people. Around 4,000 workers put in over 1.2 million hours to create this impressive structure. Thanks to the close cooperation between the city, architects, designers and MC-Bauchemie, this ambitious project was successfully completed.
