Concrete Repair

Concrete Repair

With the PCC and SPCC concrete replacement system from MC, you can be sure of meeting any challenge, whether in reinstating corrosion protection, achieving a structural upgrade or providing fire protection.

Concrete Repair

Concrete is the backbone of modern infrastructure and it has wide applications ranging from powerplants and airports to residential buildings and commercial skyscrapers. Each application brings its own set of problems associated with its use, in addition to the usual problems influenced by environmental exposures and pollution. Depending on your location and market standards, MC-Bauchemie’s tailored range of concrete repair mortars fulfil each of your requirement – suited to your local market, environment and quality standards.

Nafufill Range of Repair Mortars

The Nafufill range of repair mortars cover all the possible applications prescribed by EN 1504-3, precisely from R1 through R4 type mortars, including corrosion protection and bonding agents. In addition to this, MC-Bauchemie also offers specialised repair mortars, for example: Nafufill KM 180 for horizontal areas and the Nafufill KM 250 HS for areas with high sulphate exposure.

1. Corrosion Protection

Corrosion protection materials, such as Nafufill KMH, are applied on cleaned and prepared reinforcement bars to protect them against contaminants, especially chlorides.

2. Bonding Agent

Bonding agents enhance the adhesive bond between the original substrate and the applied repair mortar and reduce chances of sagging or debonding, especially when working on vertical or overhead areas.

3. Concrete Repair

Bonding agents enhance the adhesive bond between the original substrate and the applied repair mortar and reduce chances of sagging or debonding, especially when working on vertical or overhead areas.

4. Fine fillers

Fine filler mortars can be used as a final thin layer to smoothen the concrete surface, level and fill pores and blowholes or prepare the surface for a consequent surface protection coating.

Challenges

Mechanical

Abrasion or fatigue caused by repeated mechanical impact can cause changes in the physical geometry of exposed concrete surfaces. Causes can be fatigue, overload or movement and settlement of structures.

Chemical

Exposure to aggressive chemicals such as acids, sulphates or aggressive agents directly affects concrete, resulting in extreme and quick loss of concrete cover.

Physical

Freeze-thaw and thermal effects caused by extreme temperature changes can lead to ingress of water and pollutants through cracks and cavities.

Biological action

Algae / Vegetation growth in porous concrete can lead to degradation of aesthetic appearance as well as root penetration, which can increase crack width and substantially accelerate concrete degradation.

Carbonation

Various factors such as incorrect water to cement ratio, curing problems or insufficient protection from humidity can lead to carbonation. Rusting and expansion of reinforcement and the resulting spalling of concrete are typical physical indicators.

Sea Water / Chlorides

Ingress of seawater or salts through cracks and cavities can lead to pitting corrosion of concrete reinforcement. This is particularly dangerous to the structural integrity of concrete as there are seldom visible precursors.

Benefits
